The Pillars of Hercules
We will begin our tour with a visit to the Pillars of Hercules, where you can marvel at the stunning views of North Africa and Morocco. This iconic spot marks the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, serving as the only entrance to the Mediterranean. You will be standing above Europe Point, the southernmost tip of Europe.
St Michael's Cave
Next, we will explore St Michael’s Cave, a popular destination that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Its vast caverns are easily accessible with just a few steps. This natural wonder was formed by rainwater seeping through limestone rock over millions of years, creating a weak carbonic acid that gradually dissolved the stone.
In 2021, St Michael's Cave introduced a new lighting system called "The Awakening," enhancing the experience of its natural beauty. This immersive light and sound installation brings the cave's ancient history to life, illuminating sculptures and revealing their hidden stories.
Top of the Rock Skywalk
We will then ascend to the top of the Rock, where you'll experience two highlights: the Skywalk glass viewing platform and the famous monkeys. The Skywalk, a former military lookout, has been transformed into a state-of-the-art glass platform offering spectacular 360º panoramic views of the Mediterranean.
Gibraltar Monkeys
A short walk from the Skywalk takes us to the Upper Apes Den, home to the only Barbary Macaque Apes in Europe. These monkeys, now numbering over 200 in six packs, roam the upper rock nature reserve of Gibraltar. According to legend, Sir Winston Churchill ordered the population to be replenished in 1942, believing that as long as these apes inhabit the Rock, Gibraltar will remain under British rule.
The Great Siege Tunnels
Our journey continues to the north side of the Rock to visit the Great Siege Tunnels. Carved out of the rock by hand during the Great Siege of 1779-1783, these tunnels were created to defend Gibraltar from Spanish and French forces. This site offers a deep dive into Gibraltar's history under siege.
The Moorish Castle
Descending from the upper rock nature reserve, we will stop at the Moorish Castle. This medieval fortification, originally built in 1160 CE and later ransacked by the Spanish between 1309 and 1333, stands as a proud symbol of Gibraltar's rich history. Rebuilt in the 14th century by Abu-l-Hasan, the castle has been recently restored, allowing visitors to admire its ancient walls and see the cannon dents that remain.
100 Ton Gun
After exploring the Moorish Castle, we will leave the Upper Rock Nature Reserve and drive through Gibraltar's old town to see the 100 Ton Gun. Built in the late 1800s by the British naval authorities, two of these massive guns were installed in Gibraltar and another two in Malta to secure their holdings.
Europa Point & Views to Africa
Our next stop is Europa Point, the southernmost tip of Gibraltar. Here, you will be treated to breathtaking views across the Strait of Gibraltar to North Africa and Morocco, as well as the bay of Gibraltar and the Spanish towns along the shore.
360º Drive Around Gibraltar's Coastline (Catalan Bay)
We will take a scenic drive around Gibraltar’s coastline, stopping at various viewpoints along the way. You'll see areas like Catalan Bay, Jurassic sand dunes, and the old water catchments.
Airport Runway
Our tour will also take us under the airport runway (Kingsway Tunnel) towards the Spanish border, where you can see Spanish Customs at work just meters away from Spain.
We will conclude the tour at a location of your choice in Gibraltar. If you wish to explore the rest of the town and Main Street, we can provide you with a map and guidelines for visiting the pedestrian areas and getting back to your destination.
