Continue to the 19th Century Siege Tunnels, then delve into the fascinating World War II tunnel system that fortified Gibraltar as a defensive stronghold.
The Pillars of Hercules
The tour's first highlight is the renowned Pillars of Hercules. Here, you'll be treated to stunning views of North Africa across the sea, witnessing the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea from a vantage above Europa Point.
St Michael's Cave
Next, we'll drive to the awe-inspiring St Michael's Cave, a natural wonder that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Explore the vast caverns that have captivated humans for millennia.
Top of The Rock
Your private guide will then take you to the Top of the Rock, offering panoramic views of Gibraltar. Here, you can spend time with the famous monkeys, observing their playful antics and social behaviors. If you're fortunate, one might even hop onto your back, providing a memorable photo opportunity!
Skywalk Glass Viewing Platform
At the Top of the Rock, you'll also experience the Skywalk Glass Viewing Platform. Opened by Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, this platform allows you to stand on transparent glass, high above the ground, and take in the breathtaking east-side views of Gibraltar.
The Great Siege Tunnels
Our journey continues to the north side of the Rock to visit the Great Siege Tunnels. This site is a must-see, offering a deep dive into Gibraltar's history during the 18th century sieges. Learn about the remarkable engineering and hear stories of the people who carved out and used these strategic tunnels.
World War II Tunnels
The most extensive tunneling in Gibraltar's history occurred during World War II. During this period, Gibraltar was crucial to the North Atlantic and Mediterranean campaigns, expanding the tunnel network from 7 miles (11 km) to 25 miles (40 km).
At the onset of the war, civilians were evacuated, and numerous tunnels were created to house the enlarged garrison and stockpile vast amounts of food, equipment, and ammunition. Walk through sections of these historical tunnels, discovering where soldiers operated, slept, and stored supplies. Enhance your visit with a headset and audio guide, providing detailed insights into the wartime operations within these tunnels.
